Cinemeccanica Victoria 5 Projector Donation

Updated: Apr 4

For the first time in over 70 years the Broadway has a new projector!

Earlier this week the Broadway hired van squadron travelled all the way to Thurso, covering the length of the country to collect a Cinemeccanica Victoria 5 from supporter and former projectionist Darren Manson. We would like to give Darren the warmest thanks once again for his incredibly generous donation of our new 35mm projector, that with some re-wiring and spare parts is easily restorable to working condition! This means that even before the restoration process begins, the Broadway will soon be 35mm compatible once again!

The 'Vic 5' wasn't the only kind donation from Darren too! We also collected five full prints of different films on 35mm, various reels, and even received behind-the-scenes tours of cinemas past and present in Thurso, including the five-screen Merlin Cinema! Additional thanks go out to Merlin for their hospitality and fascinating look at the chain's only Scottish venue, which opened as the independent All-Star Factory in the year 2000.

Our chief projectionist Guy is now hard at work with the help of the Projected Picture Trust to get our Vic 5 in full working order, and we can't wait to share our progress with you! The pride of Italian projection will soon whirr to life in the Broadway for the first time!
